Letting Go

Today was a day that I knew that something would be different.

I always knew that there would come a time that this would happen.

I just didn't think that it wuold be this fast or quick.

It feels just like yesterday that the first grade incident happened

or that we were exchanging hand signals of our own little jokes to each other.

Everything now changes

You don't hold the same aura any more

You're riding the ride; not directing it like you always have.

The question of the matter is that you didn't stay the same.

It wasn't a gradual change.

It was just sudden.

Did it go to your head about team names or team titles??

Did the label of "Honors" or "GT" get to your head?

Of course you are a gifted studen.

Of course you are allowed to be challenged

But you're taking advantage of it all.

What happens when high school comes around the corner and you know that it will

What happens then?

I have to take care of myself too.

Mom and Dad won't be there to pick up the mess

And neither will I

I'm letting you go.

Let the world teach you the lessons you need to learn.
